Basic Islam for Hindu Dhimmis

Temples have been demolished in the Valley on a daily basis. The world could not care less. An American had once told me: ?Why should we care? Indian democracy is led by the majority who are Hindus and you want us to talk about the human rights of the community of rulers??
We do not have much time, in fact about 45 years, as the X-graph of statistical regressions estimated by J.S. Bajaj and colleagues shows. ?X? represents the two trends?Hindu percentage declining and Muslim percentage rising, and intersecting in the year 2061.
We Hindus must understand the true nature of Islam before we can formulate a strategy to defeat those who threaten us.
Thanks to Shri Vedantamji of the VHP, I had visited Thondi and Rasathipuram Municipalities of Ramanathapuram and Vellore districts respectively, and was truly shocked by what I saw. Both these municipalities are in Muslim-majority areas, and the local bodies election had empowered the Muslims with their capture of the municipalities.
The Muslim-ruled municipalities have thereafter converted these areas into mini Dar-ul-Islams, in a Hindustan of 83 per cent Hindus! The minority Hindu areas of the municipality were thus denied civic amenities, funds for schools, garbage clearing etc., and sent notices in Urdu. Hindus were bluntly told convert to Islam if they wanted civic facilities.
I could not believe that in South India this was possible where Hindus are actually above national average at 90 per cent of the population. I know that in Kashmir Valley, Muslims who are in majority have actively or passively connived in driving out half a million Hindus out of their homes and made them refugees in their own country. Temples have been demolished in the Valley on a daily basis. The world could not care less. An American had once told me: ?Why should we care? Such atrocities are happening not only in Kashmir, but in other parts of India as well in pockets wherever Muslims are in majority, e.g., Mau and Meerut. In pocket boroughs of India, thus, Dar-ul-Islam has today returned to India after two centuries. Considering that a demographic re-structuring is slowly but surely taking place, with Hindu majority shrinking everywhere, Dar-ul-Islam in pockets might indeed, like amoeba, proliferate, coalesce, and jell into a frightening national reality?unless we Hindus wake up and take corrective action now, actions for which we shall of course not get a Nobel Peace Prize.
Dar-ul-Islam is a Muslim religious concept of a land where Muslims rule, and the non-believers in Islam are termed as Dhimmis. The term Dhimmi was coined after the Jews were crushed in Medina [Khaybar to be exact], and the defeated Jews accepted that if they did not convert to Islam, then they would accept second-class status politically, culturally, and religiously. This included zero civil rights including the right to modesty of women, and the special tax jaziya.
There is thus no scope for Muslims and non-Muslims uniting as equals in the political, cultural, or social system in a Dar-ul-Islam where Muslims rule. Secular order in India thus is possible only when Muslims are not in power. Thondi, Rasathipuram and other places prove that the Muslim mind suffers from a dangerous duality?of seeking secularism when out of power and imposing a brutal demeaning theocracy for non-Muslims when in power.
It is this duality that patriotic Hindus must re-shape by modern education and other means, as also retain its demographic overwhelming majority in India. The dhimmitude of Jews in Medina and later in Mecca represents the beginning of religious apartheid inherent and basic to Islamic mores, and practised long before what we saw in South Africa on the basis of colour and race, and that which became prevalent during the Islamic imperialist rule in parts of India. Hindus had been dhimmis for six hundred years in those parts of India despite being a bigger majority in the country than even today. Hence, a majority is not enough. Hindus need also a Hindu mindset to be free.
In his presidential address to the Muslim League in Lahore in 1940, Mohammed Ali Jinnah had articulated this concept of apartheid in his own inimitable way:
?To visualise Hindus and Muslims in India uniting to create a common nation is a mythical concept. It is only a fancy dream of some unawakened Hindu leaders?. The truth is that Hindus and Muslims are two different civilisations?. since their thought process grow on different beliefs.?
Large sections of Muslims in India then had rejected Jinnah and his concept of non-compatibility of Muslims with Hindus. But after Independence and Partition, instead of building on this rejection by many Muslims, the Nehru era saw increasing pandering precisely to the religious element that believed in this apartheid. Indira Gandhi vigorously continued this appeasement thereby nurturing the apartheid mentality of Muslim orthodoxy.
But the final undermining of the enlightened Muslim came when the government capitulated in the Shah Bano case. Thousands of Muslims had demonstrated on the streets demanding that the government not bring legislation that would nullify the Supreme Court?s judgment in the Shah Bano case but in vain. Rajiv Gandhi, I learnt later, on counsel from his Italian Catholic family, had surrendered to the hard line clerics who protested that the Supreme Court had no right to interfere and to de facto amend the Shariat, the Islamic law code. These relatives on a directive from the Vatican thought that if secular law would be applied to Muslims, it can be to the Christians too.
This was a nonsense argument of the Muslim clerics, since the Shariat had already been amended, without protest, in the criminal law of India. The Indian Penal Code represents the uniform criminal code that equally applies to all religious communities. I therefore ask the clerics: if a Muslim is caught stealing, can any court in India direct that his hand at the wrist be cut off as the Shariat prescribes? If Muslims can accept a uniform criminal code what is the logic in rejecting the uniform civil code?
In India, Dhimmi status for Hindus during Islamic imperialist rule has had other social implications. Defiant Brahmins and Kshatriyas, who had refused to convert and chose to remain Hindus, were forced to carry night-soil and suffer great indignities for their women folk. Or it meant gross mental torture. Guru Tegh Bahadur, for example, had to see his sons sawed in half, before the pious Guru?s own head was severed and displayed in public.
The debasement of Hindu society then was such that those targeted valiant Brahmins and Kshatriyas, who had refused to convert and thus made to carry night-soil, were disowned by other Hindus and declared to be asprashya or ?untouchable?. The ranks of the Scheduled Caste community, which was not more than 1 per cent of the population before the advent of Islam in India, swelled to 14 per cent by the time Mughal rule collapsed.
Thus, today?s SC community, especially those who are still Hindus, consists mostly of those valiant Brahmins and Kshatriyas who had refused to become Muslims but preferred ostracization and ignominy in order to remain Hindus. Hindu society today should offer koti koti pranams to them for keeping the Bhagwa Dhwaj of Hindu religion flying even at great personal cost and misery.
I have already written enough in these columns about Hindus being under siege from Islamic fanatics and Christian proselytizers. I have suggested that we can lift this siege only if we develop a Hindu mindset, which is a four dimensional concept. But that mind must be informed, and understand why others do what they do to Hindus before we can defeat their nefarious designs. Here I suggest therefore that we Hindus must understand the true nature of Islam before we can formulate a strategy to defeat those who threaten us. In a later column I will write about the true nature of Christianity and how to combat the menace of religious conversions of Hindus.
At this juncture let me add even though I oppose conversion as violence, as Swami Dayanand Sarasvati boldly wrote to the Vatican Pope, nevertheless if an Indian Muslim or Christian changes his religion to Hinduism today, I will not regard it as conversion because it is a return to the Hindu fold of those whose ancestors had been forcibly converted.
Unlike Hinduism, which says not a word against non-believers, in fact says that other religions also lead to God, Islam is harsh on them, and justifies violence against them as sacred. The choice to non-believers in Islam is: convert or accept dhimmitude. Hence, the explanation for Thondi, Rasathipuram, Mau etc., and the duality in ethics practised by Muslims everywhere. A true Muslim is Dr. Jekyll when in minority, and Mr. Hyde when in majority.
So what should we Hindus do? First, recognise that being a pious Hindu is not enough. Hindus must unite and work to install a Hindu-minded government. If 35 per cent of the 83 per cent Hindus unite to vote for a party, absolute majority is attainable. If Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha, RSS, and VHP decide to mobilise the voter to support a party that espouses an approved Hindu agenda, then the union government is within reach through the ballot box. Second, search for those Muslims who are ready to openly and with pride declare that their ancestors were Hindus. My guess is that about 75 per cent of Muslims will be ready to do so. These are the Muslims who can be co-opted by Hindus to fight Islamic fundamentalism. If we do not do so, then the Muslim clerics will have a free run of their fanaticism.

Third, invest heavily in primary education to make it world class, ban the madrasas for any student below 21 years, and make Sanskrit a compulsory language for all students

The Muslim judge in the Ayodhya dispute reminds Muslims of Hudaybyah (via Dikgaj’s Weblog)
I find that it was Muhammad who first broke the Treaty of Hudaybiyya, not the Meccans who are usually blamed via for the event years later. Muhammad ended up not honoring his word. The fact that he did return some dowry money does not mitigate his actions of not returning the women and not keeping his word. Once again, Muhammad has another convenient “revelation”, and God gets stuck with the blame.

MUHAMMAD BREAKS HIS WORD AND THE TREATY OF HUDAYBIYYA
Later, other Meccans came to Muhammad and according to the Treaty asked Muhammad to return some women. Muhammad refused to honor his word and the Treaty. Instead he had the Muslims return any dowries that were given to the women.
“Umm Kulthum Uqba Muayt migrated to the apostle during this period. Her two brothers Umara and Walid sons of Uqba came and asked the apostle to return her to them in accordance with the agreement between him and Quraysh at Hudaybiyya, but he would not. God forbade it……Sirat page 509.
The Sunan of Abu Dawud in volume 2, #2759 says:
“….Thereafter some believing women who were immigrants came. (Allah sent down: O ye who believe when believing women come to you as emigrants). Allah most high forbade them to send them back, but ordered them to restore the dower.”
Muhammad claimed that now God allowed him to break the Treaty, stating the conditions were only a test of the Muslim women‘s faith. Once again, Muhammad has a convenient “revelation” justifying his actions [see Sura 60:10]. Appreciating the Honourable Sessions Court that worked under the supervision of the Honourable Supreme Court for confirming that 58 Hindus were burnt alive in the Sabarmati Express under a Jehadi conspiracy, Dr Pravin Togadia, International Secretary General of VHP appealed to all courts to hang such brutal Jehadis.
Dr Togadia said, “It is welcome that 31 accused in the Godhra Train burning case are convicted for criminal conspiracy to murder of 58 Ram Bhakts, however I appeal to the state government to appeal against the acquittal of the remaining 64 accused including Maulana Umarji. Then & then only the families of the Hindus who were burnt alive will get real justice.”
Dr Togadia further expressed, “There has been a larger ‘Victimize & Persecute Hindus’ conspiracy going on by the political class & by the so called pseudo secular media. It has been evident in the said Godhra train burning case. First, the government removed POTA from the accused; secondly the Union Government even went to the extent of forcing the Justice Banerjee Committee’s vicious report that claimed that the Hindus in the train burnt themselves alive! This was nothing but the most shameful attempt to appease Muslims & sheer violation of all Human Rights of the families whose near & dear ones were burnt alive. The third attempt to demean & degrade Hindus has been going on by the so called pseudo-secular media who without going into the merit of the case have been running the campaign against Hindus & Hindu Organizations. Hindus have noticed it not just in this case but also in the post Godhra happenings coverage & as recently as in the biased coverage of what the Union Govt termed as Saffron Terror. It is a tragic paradox for the majority that when a Muslim dies in any blast or fire, these biased people blame Hindus; but when Hindus are burnt alive, the same group claims that Hindus burnt themselves – with fully realizing how much they must be hurting the families who have been waiting for justice so long! While running tear shedding stories of the accused & their families, media almost boycotted the grieving families of Hindus who were true victims!”
Dr Togadia continued, “Now that the Honourable Sessions Court has accepted under the supervision of the Honourable Supreme Court that under the brutal criminal conspiracy, 58 Hindus were burnt alive by the Jehadis, as the law says, ALL conspirators must get the same punishment by all the Honourable courts & that is only a DEATH PENALTY & nothing less than that. I also appeal all in the judiciary & all the political parties & all the governments that it is the duty of all these to give justice to the families of 58 Hindus without getting influenced either by the vote bank politics or by the biased channel – panel media trials. Then & then only the human rights of these 58 Hindu families would be protected.”
Dr Togadia appealed to all Hindus in Bharat & in Gujarat to respect the legal process peacefully.

Expressing utmost appreciation to the Honourable Mumbai High Court’s verdict confirming death by hanging to Ajmal Aamir Kasab, VHP International Secretary General Dr Pravin Togadia said, “Mumbai police, Public Prosecutor Advocate Shri Ujjwal Nikam & the brave witnesses got Jehadi terrorist Kasab to justice. It requires not only courage but also an unconditional commitment to the security of the nation. But as we always see, justice is done only when it is seen to be done. Afzal Guru, the Jehadi terrorist who attacked the Parliament, is still alive even after the Honourable Supreme Court confirmed his death sentence. Process of law can not be an excuse for Jehadis whose only aim is to rule Bharat & spread Islam. Therefore, all those families who have lost their near & dear ones in various Jehadi attacks will get justice only when all those Jehadis are hanged to death.”
Dr Togadia further added, “But the governments are bent upon being soft towards such Jehadis whereas treating Hindus as terrorists in Bharat. This is a tragic paradox that the majority of Bharat is a victim of Jehadi terror but the victims are being dumped in jails! Naxals are abducting senior officials, ULFA yet threatening attacks but the government is bending before them for vote banks. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan of Pakistan is charged under FEMA but he is allowed to go away with just a minimal fine whereas thousands of Indians are languishing in Pak jails. Mumbai Bomb Blasts accused, Mumbai train blasts accused, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad Jehadi attacks accused are still alive & are misusing Bharat’s democracy & Bharat’s liberal law system. Al Queda has issued the statement that Democracy is unIslamic but Jehadis who attacked Bharat have been manipulating Bharat’s democratic systems. It is the need of the hour that cross-border & ingrown Jehadi terrorism is treated as the most heinous crime & the Jehadis should not be allowed to avail of Bharat’s law processes that keep such demons alive. Their being alive longer like this either pending cases or pending mercy petitions also poses great risk to Bharat’s internal security as Bharat has not yet forgotten the Kandhar incident where many ferocious Jehadis were let off due to hi-jacking. Both state & Union governments should look at such aspects seriously immediately & hang the Jehadis at once to save Bharat further.”

These Islamic Ten Commitments obviate the fact that Islam represents the activities of mafia, gangsters, criminals, racketeers and so on, not of pious and humble people. Only mentally disabled people would like to join this so-called religion.

On Thursday 29th and 30 December 2010 mid night about 11.00 pm a meghwal dalit family headed by Hiro s/o Talho resident of village Jinjhi Union Council Rajoro Taluka Chachro Sindh Pakistan was a farmer on the land of Yousif S/O Allah Warayo Janjhi resident of village Janjhi (village of Kamred Jam Saqi), abduted by three roguish man namely Mushtaque S/O Majeed , Abdullah S/O Qadir Janjhi and Imamdin S/O Dulo Janjhi resident of village Janjhi kidnapped/abducted the above family comprising on following eight (8) members namely
1. Hiro s/o Talho age 45 years
2. Chandi w/o Hiro age 40 years
3. Roshani d/o Hiro age 16 years
4. Amo d/o Hiro age 14 years
5. Durga d/o Hiro age 12 years
6. Moomal d/o Hiro age 10 years

This family was induced and pressurized for conversion otherwise they will lose their lives. The family converted forcibly by Mufti Adam Samejo who is the Muhtmam of Madrasa Chhachro. This is clarified that except two the remaining family members are minor age and they don’t know about the Islam. In Tharparker the majority is of the non-muslims and the Taliban’s are actively playing role of inducement.
The Muhtamam and other influential are giving them to meet with their relatives. They kept this family in room of madrasa.

world’s ‘Greatest DemoNcracy’ until Muslims are paid back justly and fairly for the loss of their
beloved Babri Masjid, the precious lives of their near and dear ones, their pride, dignity and
self-respect. O you lowliest, stupid worshippers of Shiva and Parvati’s ‘sexual organs’! Be

Allah( ) and Prophet’s( ) Verdict about a Masjid:
Once a masjid is erected, it always remains a masjid and the ‘property’ of Allah( ) until
the Last Day. It cannot return to being the property of any person or community even those
who may have paid for establishing it. Neither above it nor below it on any floor can be used for
anything but as a masjid. Hence, all rulings that apply to a masjid will now apply to the exact
same area directly below it on each of the lower floors (including the basement); and likewise
on all floors above it because it is a masjid to the peaks of the heavens and likewise to the
recesses of the earth below.
O Muslims! For the sake of Allah( ) STOP trusting the Taghut Judiciary and the Taghut
Parliament and mend ways to ‘please’ Allah( ) alone. Technically speaking even the socalled
‘supreme court’ stands inefficient against legislations approved on the floor of the House.
It needs no mention that time and again the Congress party with its hidden agenda has shown
its true colors. Be it the inaction over the planting of the idol in 1949 or the shilanyaas, the
ground-breaking ceremony of 1989 and finally the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992. For
all practical reasons the Masjid site has since been transformed into a Mandir, thanks to the
Supreme Court order to maintain Status-quo. The Allahabad High court’s verdict of ‘Aastha
over Facts’ is exemplary of the bias judiciary although Ram is purely a mythical figure. The
Supreme Court, the high courts, the lower courts and all the Commissions have utterly failed
to play an impartial role regarding Muslim issues. Narendra Modi who presided over the 2002
massacres of muslims in Gujarat is given a clean chit whereas the victims still run from pillar to
post for justice. Even the 92 Mumbai culprits roam freely and enjoy government security. All
the anti-Muslim pre-planned riots, arson, rapes, losses of lives and properties are still awaiting
justice. The list is endless!
Have you seen those (hyprocrites) who claim that they believe in that which has been sent down to you, and that
which was sent down before you, and they wish to go for judgement (in their disputes) to the Tâghût (false
judges) while they have been ordered to reject them. But Shaitân (Satan) wishes to lead them far astray.

Also Quran explicitly hammers thrice:
…And whosoever does not judge by what Allâh has revealed, such are the Kâfirûn (i.e. disbelievers – as they do
not act on Allâh’s Laws.) (Al-Maeda:44)
…And whosoever does not judge by that which Allâh has revealed, such are the Zâlimûn (polytheists and
wrongdoers – of a lesser degree). (Al-Maeda:45)
…And whosoever does not judge by what Allâh has revealed (then) such (people) are the Fâsiqûn (the rebellious
i.e. disobedient (of a lesser degree) to Allâh. (Al-Maeda:47)
O Muslims! We hereby declare that even if all the ulema, scholars and muslim leaders
collectively deviate from or refuse Allah( ) and Prophet’s( ) Verdict, their decision will
be right beneath our feet. Ultimately, Allah( ) is Most Supreme. Any argument against
the Quran and Sahih Hadith is totally unacceptable to us. Neither the All India Muslim Personal
Law Board nor the Babri Masjid Action Committee nor the Sunni Waqf Board nor any litigant
has any right to alter or compromise on any of these aspects whatsoever regarding the Babri
Masjid. All sorts of bartering and bargaining is totally unacceptable to Allah( ) and thus to
the Muslims.
Our Ulema ought to be those who fear Allah( ) the most as they are the most
knowledgeable but today it seems inversely true. They were to be more responsible and be at
the forefront like the Huffaaz (Quran scholars) companions of Prophet( ), several of whom
were martyred in the cause of Allah( ). They never sat back and were never content with
giving lectures alone dying to join the good-books of the Kuffar. It won’t be surprising if most
scholars of our times fill the Hellfire. We urge those ulema to behave sensibly, change their
attitude towards this Holy Cause, fear Allah( ) alone, come forward, inspire and motivate
the people and thus appease none but Allah( ) alone.
The Indian Mujahideen has time and again warned these infidel kuffars and idol worshippers
and their rulers to desist from their repressive designs and injustices aimed at the Muslim
community. These Pharaohs of India have themselves provided us the opportunity to once
again strike at their throats.
O you nasty, rotten Hindus! We are fully aware of your preparations at the Babri Masjid site
for the construction of a ‘grand temple’ over the corpses of our martyrs all over the country.
The Indian Mujahideen warn these filthy Hindu zealots that even if a Grand Temple of Gold is
built over the Babri Masjid we will destroy it at all costs. Remember! It was a Masjid, It is a
Masjid and It will always remain a Masjid. At this juncture Muslims are silent due to their state
of affairs. We hereby invite all our Muslim brethren to never be weak-hearted over the designs
of these idolators and urge them to strengthen their faith in Allah( ) and unite for the
cause of Islam. Surely, victory is awaiting us, InshaAllah. Our memories are still fresh and our
hearts still bleeding over every muslim brother and sister who was hacked to death after the
demolition of Babri masjid. Indian history is decorated with countless state-sponsored terror
and state-managed riots. Shaheed kii jo maut hai wo qaum ki hayaat hai. Indeed every martyr
enlivens the ummah. By Allah( )! We will not budge until every inch of the Masjid is
regained and lives of our martyrs avenged. By the grace of Allah( ) we will strike terror in
the hearts and minds of these idol worshippers until the mountain of injustice is undone.
InshaAllah, we will leave no stone unturned come what may till the anger of believer’s hearts
is removed and a Magnificent Masjid is built at the same spot. We have now achieved skills to
teach Newtons’ 3rd law in ‘their own’ terms. Our youth have all reasons to be proud and
pompous to shoulder our responsibilities towards the Ummah, while our elderly can be
content. Alhamdulillah! We seek their Duas and supplications for our cause.
And let not those who disbelieve think that they can outstrip (escape from the punishment). Verily, they will
never be able to save themselves (from Allâh’s Punishment). And make ready against them all you can of power,
including steeds of war (tanks, planes, missiles, artillery) to threaten the enemy of Allâh and your enemy, and
others besides whom, you may not know but whom Allâh does know. And whatever you shall spend in the Cause
of Allâh shall be repaid unto you, and you shall not be treated unjustly. [Al-Anfal: 59-60]
The manhandling and heckling of Kashmiri leadership in Indian cities is not at all a
minor issue. These insane and cowardly Saffron Hindus on the behest of the IB and the
administration pounce upon weak people. As usual we are going through minute details of the
matter and have obtained vital clues of the mischief which we presume to be inappropriate to
be divulged at this point of time. Meanwhile we request the respected Syed Ali Shah Geelani
Saheb and the Mirwaiz to maintain their self-respect and dignity. These sons of monkeys and
snakes will never heed to sensible arguments and historical facts. Please don’t waste your time
with these lowly creatures as they will never understand!
Already have We urged unto hell many of the jinn and humankind, having hearts wherewith they understand not, and
having eyes wherewith they see not, and having ears wherewith they hear not. These are as the cattle – nay, but they are
worse! These are the neglectful. (Al-Araaf:179)
It’s really useless to expect anything good from these ugly creatures. Indeed to cure some, force is the
only option.
O dirty Hindu idolaters! If you continue with these ‘injustices’ then we promise that we will continue
our war against you. In the name of Allah( ) we are preparing for you since years and we will
continue on this path. Hope you will appreciate and relish this deadly slap in your face for the reason
that our brothers, sisters, elderly and kids have been subjugated to piles of humiliation at your hands.
Remember they were also someone’s father and someone’s mother and also someone’s child.
And there is little doubt that ‘wisdom comes with pain!’
And there is (a saving of) life for you in Al-Qisâs (the Law of Equality in punishment), O men of understanding, that you
may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious – see V.2:2). (Al-Baqarah:179)
Lastly we appeal to all the Muslim countries to voice their concerns regarding oppression and injustice
done by India upon their fellow brethren. It is their duty to pressurize this ‘Empire of Falsehood and
Tyranny’ regarding the longstanding Kashmir issue where world’s largest concentration of armed
forces in an occupied territory stands. This ‘Hollow superpower’, needs to be told loudly and clearly
that it should get over its obsession with Muslims in India and that the Global Muslim Ummah is
seriously concerned about the issues like Babri Masjid and Kashmir.

VARANASI: A 10-month seeming lull after the Pune German Bakery blast was shattered on Tuesday when terror returned with a low-grade explosion at the evening Ganga Aarti in Varanasi that left a one-year-old girl, Swastika Sharma, dead and 35 injured, including four foreigners.
The crude device went off at 6.40pm at the old Dasaswamedh Ghat just as the aarti had begun. Mercifully the crowd was thin for the popular aarti on Tuesday as the city was already under red alert because of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary a day earlier.
The Indian Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the blast in an email sent from close to Link Road in west Malad in Mumbai. The group has said the attack was to "avenge" the Babri demolition. It also has attacked the Allahabad high court verdict on the Babri dispute.
Intelligence agencies were verifying the IM claim. Unlike on previous occasions, there was a 30-minute gap between the blast and the email. Intel sources said the low-intensity blast possibly indicated the desire on the terror group’s part to earn propaganda points rather than inflict mass casualties.
An Italian tourist Alexender Monkerly was badly injured in the blast and his condition is said to be critical.

Doctors at the district hospital have referred him to Sir Sunderlal Hospital of Banaras Hindu University. Another foreigner, Rachel from France, sustained minor injuries.
Anti-terror squad (ATS) in-charge, additional director general of police (ADG), Brij Lal, said the explosives were kept inside a milk van that was placed under the main staircase of the ghat. Parts of a timer device were also recovered from the site. Explosive experts are trying to establish if the timer was used to trigger the blast.
In Delhi, Union home secretary G K Pillai confirmed that it was a terror attack. Countrywide, cities have been put on high alert. Home ministry sources many of the injuries were on account of the stampede that was triggered by the blast.
Chunks of concrete flew in the air as the stone staircase was shattered. A visit to the site showed that the steel railing along the stairway has been twisted out of shape and the debris had scattered as far as 20 metres. Initial investigations have confirmed that shrapnels were also used with the explosives to increase their impact.
A high alert was sounded across UP after the blast while the director general of police (DGP) Karamveer Singh along with principal secretary home Kunwar Fateh Bahadur Singh took a special plane to the temple town along with a team of ATS officers from Lucknow.
Intelligence sources said a terror group had done a recce of the ghats a week before Diwali. This was communicated to the intelligence unit of the district police. Incidentally, while there was a very high security bandobast on Monday, December 6, because of the Babri anniversary, the situation was lax on Tuesday.
Devotees, including a number of foreigners were assembled at the old Dashashwamedh Ghat to watch the daily Ganga Aarti. Suddenly a massive blow changed the entire scene causing a stampede-like situation. "We were watching the Ganga Aarti at the ghat. As soon as the lamp was lit, we heard a deafening sound and cries of people. My friend Emily also sustained injuries on her cheek and hand," said Jodie, a British tourist.
Normally, around 5,000 people gather at the ghat every evening to watch the aarti. The DIG said that it seemed that the blast was triggered more to create panic than have heavy casualties. However, the severity of the blast could be gauged from the fact that the stone parts of the ghat steps got scattered up to a 20-metre radius. The iron angles were damaged badly and the puja articles of aarti were also damaged. It was a massive blow, said Babu Maharaj of Gangotri Seva Samiti, the body that organises the aarti.
